Culture
Charlotte is one of the nation's largest financial centers, second only to New York City, making finance a major player in the city's culture. The city is also home to a variety of museums, including Discovery Place and the Levine Museum of the New South. The city also holds a wide array of cultural offerings, including art, ballet, opera and theater organizations as well as community festivals. There's no shortage of culture in "the Hornet's Nest"!
History
First settled in 1755, the city of Charlotte is rich in early American history, including being a main hub of fighting between Colonial & British forces during the Revolutionary War. The city soon became famous for its high number of gold mines and the influx of amateur gold seekers soon helped the population skyrocket. The American Civil War and post-WWI also increased the population, helping make Charlotte the largest city in the state.
